Helping Your Plants Thrive All Year Round
Caring for your garden doesn’t have to be complicated – just a few simple practices can keep your plants healthy, resilient, and flourishing through the seasons.
Watering Wisely
Consistent watering is key, especially for new plants. In the UK, rainfall helps, but dry spells still occur – especially in spring and summer. Installing an irrigation system can take the guesswork out of watering by delivering the right amount, at the right time, directly to the roots. Early morning or late evening is best to minimise evaporation.
Feeding and Mulching
Use slow-release fertilisers in spring to support growth, and mulch around plants with bark, compost, or well-rotted manure. Mulching retains moisture, suppresses weeds, and improves soil health.
Pruning and Deadheading
Regularly prune to shape plants, encourage new growth and remove any dead or damaged material. Deadheading (removing spent flowers) can extend blooming periods for many perennials.
Support Pollinators and Wildlife
Choose UK native plants where possible to support bees, butterflies and other pollinators. Avoid pesticides and let parts of your garden grow a little wild to increase biodiversity.
Seasonal Checks & Aftercare
Check plants for pests and diseases throughout the year. In autumn, reduce watering, tidy beds and prepare plants for winter. In spring, refresh mulch and start feeding again. For best results, consider seasonal maintenance visits from your landscape team.
